State Representative Aaron Miller says he hopes to learn more and "do a better job" if he wins election for another term in the state House.

Miller was elected two years ago for the first time to represent the 59th district. The Republican is seeking another two year term, representing all of Saint Joseph and most of Cass County.

Miller was a teacher before winning his seat in the state House. He differs with many Republicans on whether the school calendar should be part of the negotiations between teachers' unions and districts. Miller says teachers and districts should be measured more on student growth, than just standardized test scores.

Asked about the Flint water crisis, Miller says it shows that the Legislature needs to be open. He says it would not be practical to fully open the Legislature to the Freedom of Information Act. Miller says he supports the bill

Miller's comment about still learning, prompted a question on term limits. Miller says he supports changes to term limits, which he says have done a lot of damage in Michigan. Miller says his name is on three separate bills to change term limits. One would eliminate them altogether, one would give lawmakers a total of 16 years combined in the state House and Senate. Another would lengthen current limits.
