(MPRN) Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a law Thursday that aims to reduce auto insurance rates.

The new law caps Michigan’s previously unlimited personal injury protections that pay for medical care. Whitmer said the new law is victory for bipartisan problem-solving.

“A month ago, no one thought we’d be here talking about a no-fault solution. A lot can happen in a short period of time.”

The governor says the tough bargaining on this issue might set a pattern for the future, including efforts to reach an agreement on raising taxes for road repairs.
