Lori Sims says she didn't fall in love with Debussy's piano preludes until she began teaching her students at Western Michigan University. In the past, she had been vocal about never wanting to perform Debussy, but now, she'll perform both sets of preludes in concert at the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival in two sold-out concerts.

In an interview with Cara Lieurance, Sims speaks about her newfound admiration for the composer, and how he broke new ground in piano playing. She also describes the journey of making her latest album, a live recording of the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach.  It was the result of her first sabbatical in 17 years at Western Michigan University. She credits then-School of Music director David Colson for suggesting the project.
