State Senate Bill Aims To Protect Drinking Water In Schools

Kevin Lavery, WKAR

State senators Rick Jones and Tonya Schuitmaker introduced a package of bills Wednesday to protect drinking water in Michigan schools. Under the legislation, utilities that supply water to schools would have to test for lead and copper once a year. The bills would also create a task force to review the Department of Environmental Quality’s water sampling practices and make recommendations. The bills are in response to the Flint water crisis where several children were poisoned by lead that leached into the drinking water.
