WMU is closing its campus in Punta Gorda, Florida. The state looks to cut some of the red tape around medical marijuana. Bronco men’s basketball gets its first MAC win.

(Kalamazoo Gazette) Western Michigan University is closing its location in Punta Gorda, Florida. Western has offered programs in aviation and music therapy at the Florida campus since 2017. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that university officials say enrollment has not met projections and isn’t sustainable. Western’s Punta Gorda campus will close August 31st.

(Interlochen Public Radio) The state wants to cut some red-tape for medical marijuana patients and providers. The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairsproposed reducing fees and expanding renewal deadlines for medical marijuana cards. They say they have excess profits from those fees and no longer need them. The proposed changes will go before a public hearing in the next few months before being ratified.

(Michigan Radio) The late Michigan Congressman John Dingell was honored in both Michigan and Washington Tuesday. Former Vice President Joe Biden gave the eulogy at Dingell’s funeral in Dearborn. Dingell’s body was then taken to Washington, D.C. to be honored on Capitol Hill, where he spent nearly six decades. Dingell was the nation’s longest-serving Congressman. He died last week at age 92.

Western Michigan has its first Mid-American Conference win of the men’s basketball season. The Broncos beat Northern Illinois Tuesday night, 76-74. Western plays two more home games this week, they host Kent State Thursday afternoon at 5:00, and then play Miami on Saturday.
