Pianist and composer Jeremy Siskind, who performs tonight with his New York-based trio (Nancy Harms, vocals and Lucas Pino, reeds), talks to Cara Lieurance about renowned jazz pianist Fred Hersch, who recently performed at Western Michigan University.

Hersch has had a great influence on him as a teacher and mentor, says Jeremy.

Siskind, who recently joined the jazz faculty at Western Michigan University, also discusses the songwriting class he's teaching, and his most recent work with singer Nancy Harms and Lucas Pino. A trio album is due out later this year.
