SPLICE is the Summer institute for Performance, Listening, Interpretation, and Creation of Electroacoustic music. It's a weeklong, intensive program for performers and composers who work with instruments and electronics. Held at Western Michigan University's School of Music, over 40 musicians and composers from across the US will participate in workshops, masterclasses, private lessons, and public performances of new works.
From Monday, June 27 through Saturday, July 2, the public is invited to daily performances, says co-founder Keith Kirchoff, a pianist/composer based in Boston. Philadelphia based percussionist/composer Adam Vidiksis summarizes the interaction of electric technology and music going back 100 years. And Composer Richard Johnson explains some of the ways he uses new technology in his creative works.
