Palisades Nuclear Power Plant will replace bottom of leaking tank

SOUTH HAVEN, MI -- A repair plan has been developed for the damaged safety injection refueling water tank that shut down Palisades Nuclear Power Plant earlier this month. After finding a small crack along a nozzle weld at the bottom of the tank, Palisades officials have decided to completely replace the tank bottom, according to spokesperson Lindsay Rose.

The Palisades Nuclear Power Plant remains offline because of a leak in a safety injection refueling tank. West Michigan Congressman Fred Upton toured the plant on Monday with a commissioner from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

UPDATE: Upton says he will tour the Palisades plant on Monday, May 13th, along with Nuclear Regulatory Commission member Kristine Svinicki.

Congressman Fred Upton says he's "outraged" by a new leak at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant near south Haven. The Saint Joseph Republican says he wants to get a first-hand look at the problem along with a member of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission "in the near future".
