In celebration of Black History Month, the City of Portage will host a special speaker Saturday, February 5 at the AirZoo (6151 Portage Rd). Shoshana Johnson is a second generation Army Veteran and first female Black American POW.
Army Specialist Shoshana Johnson was traveling in a convoy in Iraq in 2003 when her vehicle was attacked. Iraqi forces killed 11 soldiers in her company and captured six, including Johnson. Shoshana retired from the Army with an Honorable Discharge on December 12, 2003. Johnson’s awards and decorations include the US Army Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, and the Prisoner of War Medal.

Please bring your own copy of her book for the signing. A very limited supply of books will be available for purchase (while supplies last). This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30PM, presentation starts at 6PM.
