Think and Drink with Mitch Kachum and Lori Moore
– The Do Something Committee of the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party will host the inaugural Think & Drink event: Race, History, and a Round of Truth, with host Lori Moore, on Tuesday, September 9 at 6:00 PM at Crawlspace Comedy Theatre.
Part lecture, part trivia night, and all community connection, Think & Drink offers Kalamazoo residents a chance to gather in a relaxed setting to learn, laugh, and lean on one another in complicated times.
The evening kicks off with a featured lesson from Professor Emeritus of History Mitch Kachun, an accomplished author and historian who specializes in African American history, collective memory, and the ways the past shapes our present.
How did we get here? To understand today’s politics and divisions, we need to look back. Author and professor emeritus Mitch Kachun will guide participants through the history of race in America and what it reveals about where we are today. His work includes First Martyr of Liberty: Crispus Attucks in American Memory and Festivals of Freedom: Memory and Meaning in African American Emancipation Celebrations, 1808–1915, along with numerous other books and articles that illuminate how history continues to shape our national story.
After the talk, Lori Moore takes the stage to lead a fun Trivia Night, blending questions inspired by Kachun’s lecture with general trivia for plenty of laughs and friendly competition.
