They may speak with American accents, but Bua's music is purely Irish - learned from parents and older Irish musicians who emigrated to the United States. Bua will demonstrate their vivacious, lived-in sound in a concert at the Richland Community Hall on Tuesday.
Brian Ó hAirt - singer, dancer, concertina player - speaks of his devotion to not only Irish music but the Irish language, which he learned while living in Ireland and learning the language from native speakers. The process of transitioning from singing in English to singing in Irish was a gradual one that transformed his voice and his approach to the music.
Bua's self-published 2011 album, Down The Green Fields, was so well-received it gave the members of the group (fiddler Devin Shepherd, flutist/uillian piper Sean Gavin, singer Brian Ó hAirt, and guitarist Brian Miller) the impetus to record again. They plan to play new sets and songs on Tuesday's concert to prepare for a recording session this summer.
