The Michigan Supreme Court has a light caseload this month, but some weighty questions.
There’s a lot at stake for the families involved in two of the five cases up for oral arguments. In one, the court’s asked to decide whether a judge can choose to ignore the results of a paternity test.
At issue is whether it’s in the best interests of a child who’s settled in with a family. In another case, the parents of an 11-year-old boy killed in a sledding accident are challenging a local park commission and trust fund’s claim of governmental immunity from lawsuits.
The court usually spends three days a month on oral arguments. It’s scheduled just one day for its April docket.
