Beyond The Classical Recital: Flutist Presents 'Visible Voice'

A.R. Venter

Martha Councell-Vargas, professor of flute at Western Michigan University, with her former student, choreographer and director EJ Schubkegel, will present a concert that goes well beyond the boundaries of the traditional classical recital. Visible Voice integrates visual art, choreography, and costumes to tell a story through music for flute. In an interview with Cara Lieurance, Councell-Vargas and Schubkegel talk about the extra-musical work that went into this one-of-a-kind program.
