A nonprofit providing mental health services and treatment for substance use disorder in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids is closing.

InterAct was established in 1991. It served about 2,300 patients annually. But the organization saw its funding decrease during the Covid-19 pandemic, and it will close by October 1.

Jeff Patton is the CEO of Integrated Services of Kalamazoo, the public mental health and substance use agency under the county government. Patton said people served by InterAct will now be helped directly by ISK.

“We have been working in close coordination with InterAct administration and also their board of directors to make sure that those services continue to be provided,” Patton said.

Integrated Services plans to hire 60 of the 150 employees who worked at InterAct.
