(Gongwer News Service) The Michigan Civil Rights Commission says it has reprimanded director Agustin Abrulu. The Gongwer News Service says notice came last night that the commission voted to reprimand the director for an unspecified remark objectifying women. A statement from the commission says the vote on the reprimand came after what was called “a lengthy closed session”. Civil Rights Commission Chair Alma Wheeler Smith says Abrulu’s conduct did not violate the law, but in her words “fell short of the conduct the commission expects from its director.” In the statement, Abrulu did not give further details, but did apologize for his actions.
(WDET) Democratic presidential contenders Kamala Harris and Joe Biden say they’ll welcome future primary debates with fewer candidates on stage and more time to explore differences in policy. the two candidates moved their campaigns from the recent debate in Detroit to the streets of the city Thursday. Campaigning in downtown Detroit, Harris said the future of the working class must be the priority for Democrats. A few blocks away Biden called for more civility in future debates. Michigan will continue to be a key battleground. Vice President Pence will address the Detroit Economic Club next week.
Western Michigan University has announced this year’s class for its athletics hall of fame. Football running back Shawn Faulkner, hockey goalie Bill Horn, volleyball middle blocker Shaylen Jackson, track and field and cross-country athlete Jeff Zylstra, men’s tennis player David Gennero and women’s tennis player Frederika Gersang will be inducted during a banquet September 27th. They will also be introduced at halftime of the football game against Central Michigan on September 28th at Waldo Stadium.
