WMUK is alreadyrunning a classical music service on WKDS 89.9 FM. Today it is one step closer to owning the station, after a vote by WMUK's license holder, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees.

The Trustees approved a $191,000 plan for WMUK to buy 89.9 FM from the Kalamazoo Public Schools. WMUK still needs approval from the KPS Board of Education, which is expected to vote next week.

The deal includes a cash payment to KPS as well as leasing fees, a studio refit at the school district and underwriting trade for KPS.
