WMU hires architect for East Hall renovation

WMUK

Western Michigan University says architectural firm Tower Pinkster has been hired to remake East Hall into an alumni center

In a news release, the university says the firm was selected because it has a strong record in historic preservation. The plans for East campus were announced last year. While East campus will be transformed into an alumni center, the other three buildings are to be demolished.

The decision to raze the other three buildings has been met with criticism. Signs have cropped up around the city that say "Stop Demolition of Historic East Campus." The group Friends of Historic East Campus says the university should find another use for the other three buildings.
