Kalamazoo City Commissioner Don Cooney says he will seek re-election this fall.
Cooney, a Western Michigan University Social Work Professor, was first elected to the commission in 1997. He has led efforts to reduce poverty and address social justice in the city. Cooney has also been a vocal proponent of cleaning up PCB contamination at the Allied Paper Landfill in Kalamazoo.
The Kalamazoo City Clerk's website shows eight other candidates have filed to run for Kalamazoo City Commission. Vice-Mayor Hannah McKinney has said she will not run for re-election.
