A Republican proposal to make English Michigan's official language has cleared a State House committee. The bill's sponsor says it's modeled on similar laws in other states. The bill would make English the language for official documents. But government agencies would still be able to issue versions in other languages. Democrats weren't impressed, though. They say Michigan doesn't have a language problem that needs fixing. The bill now goes to the full House. (Detroit Free Press)
Western Michigan University has announced its Mid-American Conference schedule for the 2018 football season. The Broncos will face Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Northern Illinois and Toledo at home. Western will play road games at Ball State, Central Michigan, Bowling Green and Miami. WMU’s 2018 football season is scheduled to start with a home game against Syracuse September first, the Broncos travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan September eighth. Western plays at Georgia State September 22nd with another non-conference home game still to be announced.
