A former clerk and manager for the Village of Marcellus faces charges of embezzlement. Grand Rapids Police Chief says disciplinary action isn't likely for officers who handcuffed an 11 year old African-American girl at gunpoint. Sports broadcasting legend and Michigan native Dick Enberg has died.

A former Village of Marcellus Clerk and Manager is facing embezzlement charges. Krista Jourdan was arraigned last week on three counts, including embezzlement by an agent or trustee of $1,000 to $20,000. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that court records show that in two of the three counts, the Village of Marcellus is the victim of the embezzlement. Jourdan was fired in June of 2016. Her next court date is scheduled for January third.

Grand Rapids Police Chief David Rahinsky says no officers are expected to face disciplinary action for an incident earlier this month in which an 11 year old African-American girl was handcuffed at gun point. Rahnisky says police officers handled the situation in a way that was consistent with their training. But the Grand Rapids chief says police need to examine what happened to determine how to bring about a different outcome in the future. MLive reports that an African American pastor is calling for an outside investigation of the police department. Reverend Jerry Bishop of LifeQuest Ministries says the handcuffing incident is the latest in Grand Rapids that shows problems between police and the black community.

Thousands of miles of forest roads will soon open to off road vehicles in northern Lower Michigan. Governor Rick Snyder signed a law last year permitting ORVs on all Lower Peninsula forest roads except those closed by the state. More than 6,000 miles of roads will open on January First. The DNR has drawn maps of all the forest roads in the northern Lower Peninsula. It’s working on similar maps for the rest of the state. (Interlochen Public Radio)
