(MRPN) The second and final debate between the Republican and Democratic candidates for governor aired Wednesday night. Former state Senate Minority leader, Democrat Gretchen Whitmer and state Attorney General, Republican Bill Schuette used the opportunity to reiterate their agendas for Michigan. The debate was held at Detroit television station WDIV. They attacked each other’s records in their respective offices on issues like the environment and auto no fault insurance. Election Day is November 6th.
(Michigan Radio) The two major party candidates for Michigan Attorney General are debating over why they have not had any debates. There have been debates proposed between Democrat Dana Nessel and Republican Tom Leonard. But they have fallen through because the Leonard campaign has insisted on independent Chris Graveline sharing the stage.
The three candidates running for state Senate in Kalamazoo County will meet Thursday night for a forum at Western Michigan University. The 20th state Senate District race was the closest in Michigan four years ago. The same three candidates are running again this year. The forum with Republican Senator Margaret O’Brien, Democrat Sean McCann and Libertarian Lorence Wenke begins at 7:00 at the Fetzer Center.
(St. Joseph Benton Harbor Herald-Palladium) Berrien County health officials are urging Benton Harbor residents to get their water tested after the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality issued an advisory this week regarding lead in the city’s water. The advisory followed testing that showed elevated levels of lead in some of the city’s homes. The St. Joseph Benton Harbor Herald-Palladium reports that free testing kits with collection bottles are being made available to Benton Harbor residents.
Western Michigan University has announced two future football games against Michigan State. The Broncos announced Wednesday that they will open the season with games against the Spartans in 2022 and 2025. Both games will be in East Lansing. Western is already scheduled to play at Michigan State September 7th of next year. The Broncos’ 2018 season continues Thursday night. Western’s game with Toledo kicks off at seven o’clock at Waldo Stadium.
