(Michigan Radio) Big name national politicians are flowing into Michigan as Election Day draws near. Former President Barack Obama is scheduled to campaign with Democrats in Detroit Friday, including Matt Longjohn who is challenging Republican Congressman Fred Upton in Southwest Michigan’s 6th Congressional district. Vice President Mike Pence is doing the same for Republicans next week in Michigan.
(MPRN) The state has created a new multi-agency team to address opioid addiction. The agencies will coordinate with the state to carry out a so-called “action strategy.” The team will do things like research and develop policy initiatives, advise the governor, and explore funding avenues. In a statement, Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley said that it’s important for multiple departments to collaborate with local and federal governments and key stakeholders. He says it’ll help keep the momentum the state has built up in fighting the opioid crisis.
Western Michigan suffered its first loss in Mid-American Conference play this football season. The Broncos fell to Toledo Thursday night 51-24. Western will host another Thursday night game next week when Ohio comes to Waldo Stadium. The Broncos game with the Bobcats kicks off at 7:00 November 1st.
In women’s soccer, Western Michigan has clinched home field advantage for the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference tournament. The Broncos won their final regular season match Thursday, 4-0 over Northern Illinois. Western will host Akron Sunday to being the MAC tournament.
