(WKAR) A judge has ruled the state cannot enforce a shortened deadline for medical marijuana businesses to get their state licenses. Shops without state license would have been shut down Thursday. Now, any potential closure deadlines will be debated during a November hearing. The state moved up the previous December 15 deadline to October 31st. The city of Lansing has also filed a lawsuit against the state regarding closure deadlines. More businesses have an opportunity to be licensed at the next Medical marijuana Licensing Board meeting on November 8.
(Michigan Radio) A two day business conference opened Tuesday in Detroit with vendors talking about growing…marketing and selling marijuana. Next week Michigan votes on legalizing recreational marijuana. And folks attending the Commercial Cannabis Conference and Expo are banking on Michiganders saying ‘Yes’.
(MPRN) Next week, Michigan voters will pick a new governor. The Republican and Democratic candidates will be traveling the state as the clock ticks down to Election Day. Democratic candidate Gretchen Whitmer has more than 70 campaign stops planned over the next few days. Republican candidate Bill Schuette says he has stops planned at so-called “victory centers.” The candidates have brought in some heavy hitters to encourage people to vote. Vice President Mike Pence was in Michigan Monday to stump for Republican candidates. Former president Barack Obama was in Michigan last week – and his vice president, Joe Biden plans to be in the state on Thursday.
Western Michigan University is picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference West Division for the upcoming men’s basketball season. The Broncos did earn one first place vote in the poll of MAC coaches and media covering the conference. Eastern Michigan is picked to win the MAC West followed by Ball State, Toledo then Western. Buffalo was the top pick in the East Division, and received the most votes in the poll to win the MAC tournament. The Broncos play their final exhibition game Saturday when they host Kalamazoo College, and will open the regular season Tuesday against Detroit Mercy.
In hockey, Kalamazoo fell to Toledo Tuesday, 3-2 in a game decided by a shootout. The K-Wings have lost two of their first three games on the season. Kalamazoo will host Cincinnati on Friday.
