A class action lawsuit is filed over PFASes in Parchment’s water. Former Vice President Joe Biden campaigns for Democrats in Michigan. WMU is blown out at Waldo Stadium.
(Kalamazoo Gazette) A class action lawsuit has been filed claiming that 3M and Georgia Pacific are responsible for contaminating drinking water in Parchment. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids seeks financial compensation and funding to evaluate the health of people exposed to PFASes. Georgia-Pacific operated a manufacturing plant in Parchment, and was responsible for closing a landfill used by other companies at the site. A spokesperson for Georgia-Pacific says there is no “direct link” between the landfill and contaminated wells in Parchment. A 3M patented grease repellent was used by at least one manufacturer at the site includes PFASes. A 3M spokesperson says the company acted responsibly in relation to products containing PFASes.
The Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School says it has settled a lawsuit with the American Bar Association. The law school filed suit over an ABA letter saying that Cooley was not in compliance with a rule requiring that the school only admit applicants who appear capable of satisfactorily completing its program of legal instruction. A news release from Cooley says the bar association has determined that it is in compliance after reviewing information submitted by the law school.
(MPRN) Former Vice President Joe Biden held a rally in Lansing Thursday night. Biden was in town to stump for Democratic candidates. Biden spoke in a hushed voice due to what he said was laryngitis. He told the audience about the importance of service and the need to overcome violence and hatred. Republican candidates were scheduled to have a visit from President Trump’s counselor Kellyanne Conway. But Conway wasn’t able to come due to what party officials say was an “aircraft malfunction.”
(MLive) The Palisades Nuclear Plant near South Haven is off-line again. MLive says the plant shut down for scheduled refueling. That followed an unscheduled shutdown to fix a leaking control rod seal and other problems. Entergy, which owns Palisades, says it will be refueled one more time before it closes permanently in 2022. Entergy plans to sell Palisades and another plant in Massachusetts to a company that specializes in decommissioning nuclear facilities.
Western Michigan fell behind quickly, 21-0 in the first quarter and 45-0 at halftime and went on to lose 52-14 to Ohio Thursday night at Waldo Stadium. The Broncos are now 6-4 on the season. Western’s next game is November 13th at Ball State
