The Democratic race in Michigan's Sixth Congressional District looks a lot different now than it did in 1992. Tuesday night, Matt Longjohn defeated three other primary candidates and will face long-time Republican Congressman Fred Upton in November. But there was no primary contest in 1992 because only one Democrat ran: Andy Davis.

John James will be the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate. Democrat Cathy Albro will challenge Republican Congressman Justin Amash. Kalamazoo County Commissioner Mike Seals holds on in tight race for Democratic Primary.

State Representative David Maturen loses to a Republican primary challenger. Democrats pick their candidates to challenge Republican incumbents in the district that includes Portage, as well as the one that encompasses most of Allegan County. State Representatives John Bizon and Kim LaSata and former Representative Aric Nesbitt won Republican primaries on Tuesday.

A Kalamazoo-area physician hopes to do something in November that no other Democrat has: unseat long-time Congressman Fred Upton. Matt Longjohn easily defeated three other Democrats in Tuesday's primary in Michigan's Sixth Congressional District.
