Michigan Energy Overhaul Passes Senate

(MPRN-Lansing) The state Senate has adopted an overhaul of Michigan’s energy policy. It’s designed to ensure reliability as the state’s big utilities replace aging coal-fired plants that have to shut down.

(MPRN-Lansing) Republicans have hung onto their majority in the state House. Meanwhile Democrats are planning a change of leadership for next year.

(MPRN-Lansing) The Michigan Senate will interrupt its summer recess and return to the state Capitol this week.

(MPRN-Lansing) There are now two desks on the floor of the state House draped with black ribbon and bedecked with flowers. Lawmakers returned to the state Capitol Tuesday to the news that state Representative Peter Pettalia (R-Presque Isle) was killed Monday evening in a motorcycle crash. 

(MPRN-Undated) The sponsor of the law to repeal Michigan’s mandatory helmet law was killed Monday night in a motorcycle crash. It’s not known if state Representative Peter Pettalia was wearing a helmet when he died.
