The first class at the WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine in Kalamazoo graduates later this month. The privately funded school affiliated with Western Michigan University is also expanding into Battle Creek with a new residency program in family medicine.

The Dean of Western Michigan University’s Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine says full accreditation is “the step I’ve been waiting seven years for since I came to Kalamazoo.”

Western Michigan University's medical school has won full accreditation. The decision by the national Liaison Committee on Medical Education certifies the Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine for five years.

The program got preliminary accreditation in 2012 and a provisional certificate four years later. The school's first class will graduate later this year.
