On WestSouthwest, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo reflects on his journey to the Middle East last year. And the author of Waking Up White Speaks in Battle Creek.
Bishop Paul Bradley was one of 18 U.S. Bishops to make "A Prayer Pilgrimage for Peace in the Holy Land" last year. He will discuss that trip on Sunday at the annual Peace Service, sponsored by the Kalamazoo Coalition for Peace and Justice. His address is called "A Message of Hope for Palestine and Israel." Bradley tells WMUK's Gordon Evans why there is hope, but also about the difficulties he sees for reaching peace in the region.
Waking Up White Author Debby Irving will speak Thursday night in Battle Creek. Her appearance at First United Methodist Church is presented by Kellogg Community College's Center for Diversity and Innovation. Irving tells WMUK's Gordon Evans about writing the book, realizing the privilege of being white, and having an open conversation about race.
