On WestSouthwest, State Senator Margaret O'Brien and a report recommending reducing Michigan's prison population to cut costs. 

  

State Senator Margaret O'Brien sits down with WMUK's Gordon Evans and Kalamazoo Gazette Reporter Emily Monacelli. They discuss regulations on local government , proposed new laws meant to combat meth, adoption by same-sex couples and other issues. 

The Citizens Alliance on Prisons and Public Spending has issued a report that recommends reducing Michigan's prison population by 10,000 inmates. CAPPS Associate Director of Research and Policy Barbara Levine tells WMUK's Gordon Evans why the state could save $250-million without any greater risk to public safety. 

Gordon Evans became WMUK's Content Director in 2019 after more than 20 years as an anchor, host and reporter. A 1990 graduate of Michigan State, he began work at WMUK in 1996.
