It includes separate election of the mayor, and eventually three city commissioners will be elected to four year terms every two years. Western Michigan University Political Science Professor Susan Hoffman studies urban politics. She explains the various formats of city government and elections, and why cities sometimes change "the rules of the game."

Philanthropist and composer Peter Buffett was in Kalamazoo recently to speak at a Kalamazoo Community Foundation event. While in town, the son of billionaire investor Warren Buffett sat down with WMUK's Earlene McMichael. Peter Buffett discussed his philosophy of giving and efforts on issues related to inequality and violence against women.
