Broncos have started 0-4. Kalamazoo Gazette reporter David Drew says the team could fare better against conference opponents

Drew told WMUK's Gordon Evans that Western's defense has shown some promise, but he says it has worn down later in the games, especially against Big Ten foes Michigan State, Iowa and Northwestern. Drew says Western scheduled those games because they receive a large payout from those teams.

While the Broncos were not favored in any of those games, a loss to Nicholls State three weeks ago has left many fans wondering "is Western going to win a game?" according to Drew. But he says with a solid defensethe Broncos could go 4-4 in the MAC

Head Coach P.J. Fleck was hired after Bill Cubit was fired following last season. Fleck is the youngest head coach in the Football Bowl Subdivision, and this is his first head coaching job. Drew says he has heard much of the fans' discontent with the slow start, but he says judgment on Fleck's first season should be withheld until Western plays its conference schedule.
