State Finds Wayne County Suffering Financially

A state board has found that Wayne County is in a state of “probable financial stress.” State Treasurer Nick Khouri says now the state will send in a review team to examine the books in Michigan’s most-populous county.
“This is just one step in the whole process, and the next step is to do a deeper dive into the whole fiscal situation in Wayne County, but this is just a step," he says.

But it’s becoming more likely that Governor Rick Snyder could declare a financial emergency in Wayne County in a matter of weeks. Wayne County Executive Warren Evans asked for the declaration to strengthen his hand in bargaining with unions on cost reductions.
