Feeling in the mood for something a little spooky as Halloween approaches? On October 26-28, the Ghosts of Kalamazoo Tour, now in its 12th year, will take participants to a location that hasn’t been on the tour's itinerary for a decade.
Stuart Manor is the oldest structure still standing in Portage. Project chairwoman Jessica Bocade says there's a lot of excitement about the return to the historic location in Celery Flats.
“It was one of the first places we went to (and) it’s been awhile since we’ve been there. We’re really excited to be able to go again.”
Tickets for the tour cost ten dollars. The money goes to local causes like the Home Away from Home program at Bronson Children’s Hospital.
Bocade says each stop on the Ghosts of Kalamazoo Tour is unique.
“Last weekend we were at Mountain Home (Cemetery). Our investigator brought a few different things, some different tools to measure spirit presence, whether it was his CMS detector or things like that, and he was already getting several responses, even before we started.”
Bocade says she’s been on many tours since they began in 2006 and she has a hard time picking her favorite.
“Each of them just has such a rich history, when you hear the stories and you find out about the people who made Kalamazoo what it is, it’s just so interesting.”
The Stuart Manor tour in Portage is the last of the 2018 season. The Ghosts of Kalamazoo tours are sponsored by the Kalamazoo Jaycees.
