In June, a man stole a print insured for $10,000 from Western Michigan University’s Richmond Center for Visual Arts.
In an email, WMU spokesperson Paula Davis said the art "has been recovered but it is not currently in WMU’s possession." The university has been guarded with other details.
"With the ongoing investigation, we have released the information we can at this time," Davis said in another message.
The theft occurred June 23, according to a redacted incident report obtained by WMUK through a Michigan Freedom of Information Act request. WMU initially denied WMUK's request for the report, but later released a portion of it after the station appealed the denial.
The report says that security video shows a man walking into the office of the Richmond Center for Visual Arts the morning of June 23 and leaving with a color lithograph. The name of the artist and year of purchase are blacked out.
The report suggests police identified the suspect, but it’s not clear if he’s been arrested or charged.
