Combining contemporary works and centuries-old pieces of classical music in a single program is one of the ways Edwin Outwater brings audiences a fresh perspective on the music. The music director of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony will guest-conduct the Kalamazoo Symphony Saturday night in Chenery Auditorium.
Outwater discusses the music of Mozart and Haydn which anchors the program, as well as the unknown Pedrollo Concertino and 2012's So Far So Good, by Nico Muhly. He also discusses his well-known concert series, Intersections, which brings artists of other disciplines into play with his symphony, saying, "To me, music doesn't exist in a vacuum."
