Duo One consists of Josh Holcomb on Viola and Dede Alder on Piano and Percussion. Duo One’s first project is called “The Arc of Hona” a folk opera that has been in process since the fall of 2019. They have created a set of music which is an original retelling of the ancient flood myth. They sing and perform on multiple instruments and use a combination of acoustic and electric sounds, and live looping to create symphonic arrangements. Duo One draws upon multiple genres to tell the tale. This piece is handcrafted for a listening audience and features choreography along with the music to create a set which is in itself a complete show.
The story and the music feature all new characters that evolve and adapt to a changing landscape. Arc of Hona will be released in two parts. Part 1 will be performed in 2023 and it features 12 original songs that have been crafted to carry the story. Part 2 will include the entire story and the music and will tell the tale of Hona and Zarus as they face an environmental disaster in their communities.
