Federico Colli Will Play Works That "Show My Soul" For Gilmore Debut

Benjamin Ealovega

A concert pianist from Brescia, Italy, Federico Colli is making his debut in Kalamazoo on the Gilmore Piano Festival's Rising Stars Series at 4 pm on Sunday, Nov 14.

In a conversation with Cara Lieurance, Colli says he picked pieces that would "show my soul at its best." He'll begin with music by Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti, followed by Mozart's Sonata No. 13. The second half features an extremely hard-to-find transcription for solo piano of Schubert's Fantaisie in F minor for piano duet. Ferrucio Busoni's piano transcription of the Chaconne in D minor from the Violin Partita BWV 1004 by J.S. Bach brings the program to a close -- not quite in the Baroque era in which it began, but a satisfying arch nontheless.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
