Former Checker Motors CEO dies

The former CEO of Checker Motors in Kalamazoo has reportedly died in Florida. David Markin was 81.

The U.S. Tennis Association announced Markin’s death in an e-mail message to its members today. He served as the USTA’s president in 1989 and 1990. The organization sponsors the boy's tennis championships held in Kalamazoo each summer.

Markin also served on the Kalamazoo College Board of Trustees for 18 years, beginning in 1973.
