WMU board approves tuition increase of 3.57% for fall

WMUK

Western Michigan University students will pay higher tuition rates this fall.

The board of trustees approved a 3.57% increase on Wednesday (WMU news release).  Western Michigan University President John Dunn says this will keep the university below the cap of 3.75% set in the state budget. Schools that raise tuition more than won't receive as much funding from the state. (Mlive story).

University trustees also approved the operating budget for the next fiscal year. Dunn says the $366-million dollar budget is balanced. Vice President for Business and Finance Jan Van Der Kley says some budget reductions will be necessary to make sure it is kept in balance.
