Michigan House website

Republican State Representative Margaret O'Brien will run for state Senate in a new district that will be made up of Kalamazoo County.

O'Brien currently represents Portage and the surrounding area in the state House. She is in her second term, and would be eligible for one more two-year term in the House under Michigan's term limits law.

Former state Representative Lorence Wenke has also announced that he's running for the Republican nomination in the new Senate district. State Representative Sean McCann is running for state Senate in Kalamazoo County. McCann is the only Democrat so far to announce a campaign for the Senate seat.

Kalamazoo County is currently represented by Republican Tonya Schuitmaker in the state Senate. But she is running for re-election in a new district that includes her home in Van Buren County, as well as Allegan and part of Kent Counties.
