The Board of Directors of Western Michigan University's Alumni Association has approved $1-million toward the cost of renovating East Hall into an alumni center.
A news release from the university says the board approved the expenditure during its meeting on Friday. Western has borrowed $15-million to make the core of East Hall into an alumni center. Earlier this month, WMU President John Dunn said a final decision had not been made on the wings of East Hall. He said that would depend on raising private dollars. Officials with the architectural firm say saving the wings would cost $10-million each (Kalamazoo Gazette story).
The plan to convert East Hall into an alumni center was announced last year. It was also announced at that time, that three other buildings on Western's original east campus would be demolished.
