Battle Creek is looking for a new interim police chief. City officials said Friday that the current interim chief, Jim Saylor, is considering jobs in other cities.

Saylor is the department’s deputy chief and had been expected to fill in after long-time Battle Creek Police Chief Jackie Hampton retires. Battle Creek City Manager Ken Tsuchiyama says a new interim chief will be selected and that candidates for the post from inside and outside city government will be considered.

The city has hired the consulting firm I/O Solutions to help it find a new permanent police chief but that post won't be filled until May at the earliest. The same company helped Battle Creek find its new fire chief.
