Today we get to know Jorge Gonzalez, Kalamazoo College's new president. His first day was July 1. Gonzalez's wife is a K graduate. He has his own ties to Michigan, earning both his master's and doctoral degrees in economics at Michigan State University. He’s spent his academic career at small liberal arts colleges, like K, starting out as a professor. Most recently, he was vice president of academic affairs at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Gonzalez, who was born and raised in the northeast Mexican city of Monterrey, is Kalamazoo College's 18th president. He takes over from Eileen Wilson-Oyelaran, who recently retired after 11 years.
His inauguration is scheduled for Nov. 5.
