Composer Visits For Performance of 'El Muro' (The Wall)

Michigan State University

At 3 pm on Sunday, Nov 21, the Western Michigan University Symphonic Band and WMU Wind Symphony will give a free concert in Miller Auditorium, directed by Trey Harris and  Scott Boerma. A special guest will be in attendance: the composer of El Muro, Dr. Ricardo Lorenz, chair of the composition area at Michigan State University.

Lorenz and Dr. Boerma joined Cara Lieurance in the studio to talk about this virtuosic work from 2008 filled with a variety of rhythms and meanings, from early childhood memories of walled homes in Caracas, Venezuela, to walls which keep people in different countries apart.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
