Grant Will Reduce Cost of AP Test For Some

The Michigan Department of Education is receiving more than $500,000 in federal grants to cover the costs of advanced placement tests for low-income students.

Spokesperson Bill Disessa says the funds will lower the test fee to 13 dollars. He says costs will be split between the state and the students.

"It’s very important in helping defray those costs to low-income families who perhaps could not afford this exam. A lot of families just to make ends meet can’t afford you know a 91 dollar per exam fee."

Disessa says the department also has funds set aside to help with payment assistance.
He says the grant will help pay for more than 13 thousand tests this school year.
