Arts Alive is pleased to announce our next gallery show of 2025, “Savor the Flavor.” This show is open to any member of the public and all mediums are accepted.
Artists can interpret each gallery theme in any way they see fit. All ages are welcome to submit artwork. Enter up to 3 pieces per show at $5 per piece. Pieces may be submitted at the Tibbits Administration Office (93 W Chicago St. Coldwater, MI) Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Pieces must be ready to display or hang. PLEASE USE HANGING WIRE because tooth hangers or anything other than hanging wire is not compatible with our system. Sculptures and all other mediums accepted. Please do not submit artwork that contains nudity. Arts Alive has the right to refuse entries. The submission deadline for this show is July 8, 2025 at 5pm and the show will hang July 9-September 1, 2025 in the Tibbits Opera House Art Gallery.
The Urban Craft Fair is BACK at the Kalamazoo Farmers Market on August 31st 10-3! Come shop local vendors over Labor Day weekend. Food trucks and music will be on hand for a fun filled day. FREE ADMISSION and parking. Bring your friends!

During this Gallery Gathering, we will take a closer look at Liu Kuo Sung’s Which is Earth No. 42, part of the artist’s Space Series that was inspired by photographs of Earth taken from the Apollo 8 mission in 1968. This piece is included in the exhibition Ink Rhapsody: The Art of the Lingnan Masters in Hong Kong, which showcases traditions and innovations of the Lingnan School and highlights artistic development in Hong Kong in the twentieth century. Gallery stools will be available.

Step into a world of ink and imagination! Join us as we explore the beauty of Chinese ink paintings. We’ll discover how artists use ink to create amazing scenes full of life and movement. Get ready to spot delicate brushstrokes and bold splashes.
Please note that this event will not be livestreamed or posted on YouTube.Take a Wonder Walk through the galleries! The walk will include close looking at a few artworks as well as gallery games and activities. This is a great way to introduce your little one to art and the museum. Wonder Walks is for children 2-4 years old (but all are welcome) and is free with the cost of admission. Caregivers must stay with their children at all times. Preregistration is encouraged. Adults, remember to register your children!

Please join us the first Saturday of each month at 9 AM (barring special events or bad weather which will be announced on our Facebook page), for "Beginning Birding Walks," led by experienced birders from the Audubon Society of Kalamazoo. This event is free and open to the public. Meet at the second parking lot at Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery in Mattawan, just off SR 43. All skill levels are welcome.
We will enjoy nature while typically identifying 20-40 species of birds, plus butterflies, frogs, etc. Over 200 bird species have been sighted at Wolf Lake, which offers a variety of habitats and easy walking trails. Annual highlights include colorful songbirds like orioles, warblers, tanagers, hawks and eagles, kingfishers, Great Blue and Green Herons, and over 20 species of waterfowl. Eastern Bluebirds can be found year-round! Children accompanying adults are welcome. The focus is on birding fundamentals, and extra binoculars are always available. The walk typically takes about 2 hours (but feel free to arrive late or leave early).

Explore how a variety of apps and digital tools can be used to help artists working in traditional media. Artist Kris Walker will lead a discussion of the ways in which technology can assist the contemporary artist, from creating references to organizing artwork catalogs. We’ll discuss a wide range of methods by which artists can use digital tools to enhance the creative process, explore new ideas, and streamline some of the “work” involved in creating art.
Kris Walker is a photographer, illustrator, and designer with over thirty years of experience producing a wide range of creative projects for clients across the country. He also has taught design at Southwestern Michigan College and currently teaches Photoshop and other software in the Kirk Newman Art School’s Photography Department.
