Schyler Sheltrown on Bach Fest vocal competition, musical grounding

A vocal performance major at Michigan State University who intends to pursue an operatic career, Schyler Sheltrown talks to Cara Lieurance about her musical mentors, including current teacher Melanie Helton and her high school instructor, David Hook.

Schyler details her experience at the Kalamazoo Bach Festival Young Vocalist Competition. She also shares insight into the practice of opera singing and the music she prepared for the competition. 

Ms. Sheltrown, winner of first place, college division, in the Kalamazoo Bach Festival Young Vocalist Competition, will appear April 12 in concert with seven other finalists at Kalamazoo College.
