Kalamazoo Phil And Bach Fest End Seasons In Harmony
Two conductors of their respective musical organizations talk about the work that brings them together to end their seasons in Chenery Auditorium tomorrow. Andrew Koehler, director of the Kalamazoo Philharmonia, and James Turner, director of the Kalamazoo Bach Festival, have been separately preparing the orchestral and choral parts of a great 19th century classic, Johannes Brahms' A German Requiem.
Brahms always intended the piece to appeal to listeners of any faith, having decided from the first to fashion his own text from biblical passages. Over 160 musicians will take part in the performance. In addition to previewing the history and preparation of A German Requiem, the discussion turns to an appreciation of outgoing Bach Festival executive director Mary Lam Rodrigues.
