Director Jay Berkow and cast members Gabrielle Oliva (Magnolia) and Kendall VanAmberg (Gaylord Ravenol) join Cara Lieurance to talk about what makes the still-popular 1927 Jerome Kern-Oscar Hammerstein musical Show Boat special.

Show Boat tells the three-generational story of Magnolia and Gaylord as they battle family conflicts, romantic adventure, betrayal and responsibility. It brings to life classic songs such as "Ole Man River," "Make Believe" and "You are Love." Show Boat was the first musical to combine a wide variety of musical influences from operetta to jazz and gospel into a moving and realistic storyline.

More information on this production of Show Boat is available at the Western Michigan University Theatre Department website.
