WMU Symphony And Stulberg Silver Medalist To "Take Flight" Saturday

Stulberg International String Competition

The Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra will offer a live concert called "Taking Flight" in Miller Auditorium for the first time in two years at 8 pm Saturday, Oct 9.

It features the 2021 Stulberg Silver Medalist Sean Yu, who will play the same work he played at the competition: Prokofiev's Sinfonia Concertante.  Conductor and music director Andrew Koehler joined Cara Lieurance to talk about the virtuosic work for cello and orchestra. He also previews Lera Auerbach's Icarus and Igor Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
